Message from Charlie Moore, Chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party:
Best wishes to you for the coming year from all of us at Kentucky Democratic Headquarters!
As we plan for 2010 it is helpful to do a quick recap of the past year. 2009 was supposed to be an "off year" with no elections. Instead there were three elections for the State Senate, and we picked up two Senate seats.
At state headquarters we expanded technololgy to increase outreach to voters.
VOTEBUILDER - In 2007 the Kentucky Democratic Party added this game-changing voter file web data delivery system for Kentucky Democratic candidates, and it helped Governor Beshear win the election. At the end of 2009 we are proud to say the VoteBuilder system improved with the addition of new targeting data, stepped-up coordination, and increased overall system performance. From 30 users at the end of 2007 we now have over 3600 authorized users of Vote-Builder today.
WEBSITE - Our website was re-deisgned to increase interaction with streaming video presence as well as a new media and social network presence (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr). We created direct interaction with our Votebuilder system by allowing volunteer information to be directly fed into the system.
INVESTMENTS IN CORE TECHNOLOGY - We increased our internet backbone performance which enabled the creation of a 50-seat call center for phone banking. We added voice over internet for low-cost controlled live phone banking which resulted in reduction of the KDP's monthly recurring operating cost.
Technology is critical to our success, but it is people who determine its effectiveness.
VOLUNTEERS - We have recruited over 125 volunteers at headquarters who have made phone calls, assisted with mass mailings and entered data. We value these people greatly and our goal is to keep them interested and active and increase their number.
PHONE BANK - The new phone bank has a current capacity for 22-25 volunteers who make phone calls for candidates with access to VoteBuilder and Voice Over IP technology. The phone bank went in to action during the Robin Webb Campaign and 1,272 calls were made in one evening during this campaign alone. Our volunteers made over 15,000 phone calls during both the Robin Webb and Jodie Haydon Campaigns.
OUTREACH TO LOCAL COMMITTEES/ACTIVISTS - So far we have had three "Meet and Greet" events from the Northeastern Region to the Western part of the state. These events will continue, and we plan to meet eventually with people from all 120 counties in order to form a strong partnership with our Community Leaders.
2010 promises to be an exciting year for the Kentucky Democratic Party, and we look forward to making it a successful one!
