Announcement for Accepting Statement of Intent and Resumes for consideration to become the next KDP Chair

Dear Fellow Democrats,

As you may know, our Chair, Representative Sannie Overly, has asked the State Central Executive Committee of the Kentucky Democratic Party to convene a Nominating Committee. That committee is tasked with locating and screening applicants for the Chair of the KPD, and sending their recommendation to the State Central Executive Committee for approval. The Nominating Committee has met and prepared the following job description. Interested persons should submit their resume and a statement of intent to kdp-chair@kydemocrat.com no later than 4:00 pm ET, September 30, 2017.

Powers and Duties of Chair: The Chair of the SCEC shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the SCEC and he or she shall implement the decisions of the SCEC.

The Chair shall call meetings of the SCEC as needed, at times and places designated by him or her upon reasonable written notice to all committee members. The Chair must call at least one meeting per quarter. A tentative schedule of these quarterly meeting dates shall be sent to all committee members by the Chair prior to January 15th of each year. The Chair may revise the tentative schedule at any time upon reasonable written notice to all committee members.

The Chair shall call a meeting of the SCEC upon written request of twenty-five percent of the committee membership. If he or she fails to do so within five days of receipt of such request, the twenty-five percent (25%) requesting such meeting may call the meeting by giving not less than five nor more than forty-five days written notice of the time, place and purpose thereof to the remaining members of the committee.

If the Democratic National Committee requests appointments of persons to serve temporarily on standing committees or in the other capacities prior to the time of the State Convention where they may be chosen, or prior to the time of a meeting of the Kentucky delegation to the National Convention where they may be chosen, the Chair of the SCEC shall have the authority to name such person to such temporary positions.

  • Established track record of fundraising
  • Candidate recruitment
  • Implementing the directions of the SCEC
  • Close communication with all SCEC members, KDP Counsel and County Party Leaders
  • Increasing Democratic Party membership across the Commonwealth
  • Create guiding strategies to recruit and retain members
  • Oversight of the activities of the party organization
  • Support the County Parties in their needs and efforts
  • Understand and continue the execution of the SCEC Strategic Plan
  • Embrace and implement 120 County Strategy
  • Promote transparency of the organization
  • Internal Party governance
  • Foster recruitment and growth of grassroots leaders
  • Strong media presence
  • Unifying and build alliances with various Democratic friendly groups and external organizations
  • Development and promulgation of Party policy
  • Attend all scheduled SCEC, ASDC and DNC meetings
  • Presence at Democratic Party Headquarters on a regular basis
  • Open door policy for all constituents

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Established track record of fundraising
  • Strong working knowledge of Kentucky communities and Democratic voters across the Commonwealth
  • Demonstrated understanding of political dynamics in the Commonwealth and of Kentucky’s place in the nation
  • Public speaking and media skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain a credible reputation and high profile presence in the Commonwealth and in local communities
  • Current relationships with state and national political partners
