Kentucky Democratic Party’s Statement on AHCA
FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 4, 2017) – Today the Kentucky Democratic Party released the following statement on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) passing the U.S. House of Representatives:
“The AHCA is poised to harm the health and lives of hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians,” said Rep. Sannie Overly, chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party. “More than 1.8 million Kentuckians have some form of pre-existing medical condition, which under AHCA could be subject to skyrocketing premiums, leaving many people with no treatment opportunity at all.
“Today’s vote by the U.S. House of Representatives is also a blow to about half a million Kentuckians covered under expanded Medicaid, which has contributed about 13,000 health care sector jobs to Kentucky and meant billions of dollars to our economy. We must urge the Senate to vote no, or the people of Kentucky and the United States will end up paying an outrageous price, not only economically, but with our health and our lives.”
The Kentucky Democratic Party is comprised of more than 1.68 million registered Democrats who support issues that enhance the fair treatment of all Kentuckians.
