State Central Executive Committee Approves Call to 2012 State Convention
Clearing the way for the final stages of the Kentucky Democratic Party’s reorganization process and selection of delegates to the Democratic National Convention, the KDP’s State Central Executive Committee approved a call [PDF] for the organization’s 2012 State Convention on Monday. The convention will take place in Louisville, KY on June 2nd at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center.
“The Kentucky Democratic Party’s 2012 State Convention is both the start of a new phase for our party and also the culmination of an enormous amount of hard work,” said Dan Logsdon, Chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party. “The party’s reorganization process began over a month ago with our precinct conventions and I look forward to completing this process with the election of new members of our State Central Executive Committee as well as delegates to represent Kentucky at the Democratic National Convention.”
The June 2nd State Convention will encompass three separate events, each serving a specific purpose. At 10:00 AM, a Congressional District Convention will be held to elect members to the State Central Executive Committee. Additionally at 10:00 AM, a Congressional District Caucus will be held to elect delegates to elect the Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention. At 2:00, the State Convention will be held to elect the remaining at-large members of the State Central Executive Committee as well as affirm the Chair and Vice-Chair of the party.
Delegates from across Kentucky, elected at their local County or Legislative District Conventions, will attend the State Convention and help choose the individuals to lead the party for the next four years on the State Central Executive Committee. Those interested in running as a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention still have time to turn in a Statement of Candidacy (which can be found here) which must be turned into the KDP by May 4th.
