WANNA GET AWAY? KY DEMS OFFER MITCH A MUCH-NEEDED EVENING OFF TO WATCH HIS DUKE HOOPSTERS AT THEIR SEASON KICK OFF
Party will pay round trip airfare to Durham, overnight stay for Mitch to watch his #Dukies
LEXINGTON– After a brutal week where 30-year incumbent Mitch McConnell has been hammered in every Kentucky media market for having to pay supporters to gin up “enthusiasm” for events in communities he long ago abandoned, the Kentucky Democratic Party is offering Mitch a brief respite from the campaign trail.
Though not able to justify coughing up for a private jet – which Mitch’s trips with lobbyists and billionaires have surely grown him accustomed to – the KDP announced this morning they will spring for the commercial round trip airfare and an overnight hotel stay so Mitch can see his beloved Duke Blue Devils at their huge public kick-off event.
While it’s not the Big Blue Madness event many Kentuckians enjoyed and celebrated last week, the “Countdown to Craziness” in Durham offers Mitch a unique and up-close look at the wonderful qualities the Duke basketball program will showcase in 2014-2015. All logistical information for the trip is available here – and the KDP has been in contact with a “C. Laettner” via StubHub who has promised a courtside seat upon confirmation of acceptance of the offer.
So what say you, Mitch McConnell? You could certainly use a few hours to wind down and reflect. Your flight is Delta 2184, and it leaves at 4:57pm. Because the event will likely last well past your bedtime, KDP has a pending reservation at a 3.5-star hotel, details of which we’ll send to you or “Josh Question” Holmes separately to protect your privacy. #GoDuke #GameOn #CountdownToCraziness
For those who may not remember, Mitch’s love of Duke basketball was inadvertently showcased – so he claims – in an ad released in March, which caused massive embarrassment to McConnell’s campaign. As reported by WFPL:
“The McConnell campaign released a video Tuesday morning saying that ‘rebuilding America begins in Kentucky by making McConnell majority leader.’ However, when highlighting the state's basketball dominance—2013 NCAA Champion Louisville Cardinals and 2012 NCAA Champion Kentucky Wildcats—the ad mistakenly uses the Duke Bluedevils' 2010 championship victory.”
