53rd District Dems Choose Barry Dean Steele as Candidate in 53rd District Special Election
At a meeting of 53rd District Democrats in Edmonton on Monday night Barry Dean Steele, a retired dairy farmer and former Metcalfe County Commissioner, was chosen as the Democratic candidate for a February 7th Special Election for State Representative.
“Mr. Steele’s background, both as an elected official and a well-known member of the area’s agriculture community, make him an ideal candidate for this race,” said Dan Logsdon, Chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party. “I look forward to working with Mr. Steele, as well as local leaders and party volunteers, to run a strong and hard-fought race for this vacancy. Last year’s elections showed us that Democrats can be competitive in every corner of the Commonwealth and I expect this race to be no different.”
Steele, 55, is a resident of Knob Lick and a recently retired from 32 years as a dairy farmer. He has prior experience as an elected official having served as a Metcalfe County Magistrate from 1999 to 2006. Steele and his wife, Ann Laurie, have three sons.
The 53rd District includes Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe and Monroe Counties.
