Reggie Thomas for SD13
Reginald "Reggie" Thomas has been selected by the Fayette County Democratic Party's Nominating Committee as the Party's candidate for the KY State 13th Senatorial Seat. Thomas is a graduate of Bryan Station High School, Dartmouth College, and Harvard Law School. He is a Kentucky State University professor as well as a Lexington attorney.
“I am deeply honored and appreciative of the enthusiastic support given to me by the Fayette County Democratic Party. It is my intention to follow the work ethic instilled in me by my parents to campaign tirelessly to earn the support and trust of the people of the 13th Senatorial District,” commented Thomas after earning the nomination.
In addition to 30 years of service to the Democratic Party, Thomas has served in numerous civic and community capacities throughout Lexington such as: the board of Commerce Lexington; the board of Bluegrass Community and Technical College; the chair of the Kentucky Conference for Community and Justice; the Commission of the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau, finance committee chairperson; Bryan Station High School PTA president; and president of a little league association.
“I look forward to working with Governor Beshear and other elected officials who are committed to his legislative agenda of making Kentucky a leader in the field of education and also a place where visionaries want to come build businesses and create jobs,” said Thomas.
Thomas has been a resident of Lexington for over forty years. Thomas and his wife, Lynda, have been married for 33 years, have three grown children and one granddaughter. Thomas attends St. Paul A.M.E. Church where he serves on the board of trustees.
The special election will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. The Senate District 13 seat became vacant when Senator Kathy Stein accepted Governor Beshear's appointment to serve as a Fayette County Circuit Court Judge. The district is centered in downtown Lexington and encompasses the University of Kentucky.
