We Expected Romney’s Fundraising Bump; We’re Focused on Growing our Donor Base and Building the Largest Grassroots Campaign in History
Romney Fundraising: We expected this. Newly-crowned nominees always get a fundraising bump because everyone who donated in the primaries can max out with joint contributions for the general election. The same thing happened when Kerry outraised Bush in April 2004.
Grassroots: While Romney’s SuperPAC allies keep flooding the airwaves with negative ads, we’re continuing to build the largest grassroots campaign in American history. So far more than 2.2 million Americans had donated to own a piece of this campaign.
- We’re focused on continuing to grow our donor base. More than 572,000 people donated to help grow our organization in May, helping us raise more than $60 million.
- 147,000 people who hadn’t given before – even in 2008 – decided to donate for the first time last month.
- More than 98 percent of our donations were $250 or less, and the average donation was less than $55.
Every Contribution Matters, helping grow our campaign and moving us one step closer to reelecting President Obama so we can keep moving America forward. Every month we’re opening new field offices, train volunteers, get more folks knocking on doors and registering new voters.
